Password Toolkit

Password Wallet 4

Good security practice requires unique and complex passwords for each of your accounts. This can result in dozens of passwords that are hard to keep track of securely. Password management tools can help.

UCSB has arranged a volume license for a password management tool: Password Wallet from Selznick Scientific Software, LLC. Password Wallet allows you to manage your passwords and store them securely. It includes features to make it easy to use including auto-type and synchronization between multiple devices.

The license covers current employees and emeritus faculty. The license applies to the Windows and Macintosh versions of the program and may be used for any computer you use in support of the University. An iOS version is available for purchase on the Apple App Store and a reader is available for Android if you choose to synchronize to your portable device.

While the University has arranged for the volume license, it does not endorse the program over other password management tools available. You need to judge whether the tool addresses your needs. You can get more information about Password Wallet at http://www.selznick.com/products/passwordwallet/index.htm. Please note that the University does not provide support for Password Wallet. Please see the above site for documentation and information about support.

To obtain a copy of Password Wallet under the volume license agreement, follow these steps:

  • Download and install Password Wallet by going to http://www.selznick.com/products/passwordwallet/index.htm and selecting either the Windows or Macintosh version. Do not press "Buy Now," or "Buy Upgrade."
    • Note that you may need administrator privileges to install Password Wallet. If you do not have the required privileges, you will need the help of your IT support staff.
    • Some departments may push a copy of Password Wallet to your workstation. You will still need to obtain the license to run it.
  • To obtain the no-cost license, go to https://pw-login.ets.ucsb.edu/ and enter your UCSB NetID.
  • Detailed step-by-step instructions for Windows can be found here, and instructions for Macintosh users can be found here.
  • The manual and screenshots are available by selecting your version at http://www.selznick.com/products/passwordwallet/index.htm. There is a getting started section in the manual that will walk you through setup and use of Password Wallet.

Please remember that the license that you obtain is for your use only and may not be shared with others.
