Phishing Regarding the Anthem Data Breach

February 6, 2015

You may be aware that Anthem, Inc. was the victim of a cyber attack that resulted in a massive data breach involving approximately 80 million records. We are aware that cyber criminals have begun phishing attempts in the guise of Anthem, Inc. and Anthem Blue Cross. This will no doubt continue. While we have not heard of social engineering attempts by telephone, it is highly likely that these will come as well. Anthem will not contact you seeking personal information.

Until recently Anthem Blue Cross in California was a provider of insurance services to faculty and staff. In the past, Anthem also had a role in administering the Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP). As a result, many members of our Campus community may be impacted by the breach. The University of California is seeking additional information on the specific impact to our community. They have posted an article on UCNet at http://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/2015/02/important-informati...

We encourage all members of our community to be vigilant to this and all instances of phishing and social engineering. Do not click on links or reply to messages seeking personal information.
